Food From Home
Keeping Your Child Healthy, Safe, and Included
At our nursery, we want every child to enjoy nutritious, safe, and inclusive meals. This summary highlights the key points of our food policy to help you understand how we work together to support your child’s wellbeing.
1. Healthy and Balanced Food
-
All food brought from home should follow the same healthy principles as our nursery meals: balanced portions, low in sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats.
-
We encourage fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, dairy or alternatives, and protein.

2. Safe Food Containers and Labelling
-
Please provide all food in safe containers inside a labelled cool bag to keep it fresh.
-
Clearly label your child’s name and list any allergens, even for homemade food.
-
Common allergens include gluten, nuts, eggs, milk, fish, soy, and others. Our allergen list is not exhaustive, so please let us know if your child has any special dietary needs.

3. Food Storage and Timing
-
Food from home will be stored safely and kept for up to four hours.
-
Any uneaten food after this time will be disposed of to keep your child safe.

4. Second Meals
-
If your child needs a second meal later in the day, please bring it fresh, labelled, and following the same safety rules.

5. If Food Is Not Suitable
-
If food does not meet our standards or poses a risk, we may provide a safe alternative meal and charge for this.
6. Nursery-Prepared Meals
-
Our experienced nursery chefs prepare all meals fresh on site.
-
They are happy to share weekly menus or recipe ideas with you.

7. Working Together
-
We value partnership with parents and carers.
-
If you have questions or need advice on food, please ask our team.

8. Eating Together and Inclusion
-
Eating the same or similar foods helps children feel part of the group.
-
Shared meals support social skills, respect for diversity, and safe eating habits.
-
This approach helps all children feel included and cared for.

9. Policy Review
-
We review this policy every year to keep it up to date and effective.
